CONGRATULATIONS TO OUR ASA WOMEN’S TENNIS 2015 NJCAA CHAMPS

NJCAA DIVISION I NATIONAL CHAMPIONSHIPS Tuscon, AZ—-The defending National Junior College Athletic Association Division I ASA College (Brooklyn, NY) Women’s Tennis team repeated as team National Champions this afternoon. In addition, the Lady Avengers made the NJCAA women’s tennis record books by becoming the first team to sweep all singles and doubles championships since 1991.
In sole possession of first place in a pool of 27 two-year colleges, leading by three points, the Lady Avengers would advance to the finals in every singles flight (1-6) and every doubles flight (1-3) today. ASA only lost one set the entire tournament.
ASA College President Alex Shchegol proudly stated “This is the first time in history of junior college tennis that the victory was so decisive — we won all 6 singles and 3 doubles with a huge advantage in every match. “ He told Coach Brian Slack, “ Your team’s achievement should be an example for all of us at ASA College on how goals, academic and athletic, should be set up and achieved.”
Every ASA participant was the #1 seed going into the tournament in their respective flight and earned a bye for every first round match. Following the tournament, they would all be named First Team NJCAA All-Americans.
Since winning the national championship last season, ASA has been the #1 nationally ranked junior college the entire season by the Intercollegiate Tennis Association (ITA).
ASA Women’s Tennis won the school’s first ever NJCAA National Championship in any sport last year (2014), dethroning four-time reigning national champion host, Tyler Junior College (Tyler, TX).
