ASA Transfer Fair- Wednesday
Brooklyn, NY—The ASA College men’s basketball team defeated Globe 79-73 this evening to claim the fourth seed in the Region XV-Division I tournament this weekend being held at Suffolk CC Seldon. The Avengers will look to upset #1 Harcum on Saturday. Tip-off is scheduled. Details of the upcoming tourney will be posted shortly on asacollegeavengers.com.
With a little over fifty seconds to play in the game, freshman forward John Mitchell would put back a missed lay-up to give the Avengers the lead for good after trailing by as many as three with a little over a minute to go. Globe missed a shot to retake the lead and was forced to foul Bishop Daniels who make his first free-throw of the bonus. He would miss the second but sophomore guard Micqueel Martin would squeeze his way between two Globe bigs for offensive rebound giving ASA the chance to seal the game with :18 to go. Daniels spilt free throws again giving the Knights one last opportunity to tie the game, which eventually fell short. Sophomore forward Jimmy Pitts and freshman guard Raphael Jennings made free throws in the final seconds to put the game away for good.
ASA led by as many as ten points early in the second half.
Freshman shooting guard Rickey Meekins led all scorers with 18 points including four “knock- downs” from beyond the arc. He also grabbed six rebounds. Sophomore guard Bishop Daniels added 17 points including a couple of key pull-up makes down the stretch. Globe’s Kevin Gonzalez paced the Knights with 17 points.
The Avengers will continue their season on Saturday with a 17-9 overall record. Globe will end the season 12-17.
