AVENGERS SOCCER TEAM IS NOW REGION XV CHAMPION!

Randalls Island, NY—The ASA College men’s soccer team captured the Region XV-Division I championship this afternoon by defeating #12 Monroe 2-1 in overtime! The championship is the program’s first in their relatively short history. The Avengers will now move on to play in the Districts hosted this year by Region 3. ASA improves to 10-1-1 with the victory, which is the best record so far in program history.
In the winner-take-all match, the Mustangs would strike first in the 39th minute of the match on an Amare Thomas penalty kick. Monroe would go into the second half with the 1-0 advatage.
After three Monore shots in the 51st minute, two on goal, the Avengers answered the call in a big way with Taval Whittaker finding ASA leading goal scorer Kendan Anderson to tie the match 67th minute.
The match stayed locked at one for the remainder of regulation. Freshman goal keeper Jasurbek Tursunboyev made key saves down the stretch for the Avengers. He would finish with six on the afternoon.
Only five minutes into overtime, ASA was determined to keep their season going. Sophomore standout midfielder Keith Francisco would score the game-winning goal giving Whittaker in the 95th minute of the match to give ASA their first Region XV- Division I Championship!
