Lady Avengers Jersey Added To
Women’s Basketball Hall of Fame’s “Ring of Honor”

BROOKLYN, NY — ASA Women’s Basketball’s run to the 2013 NJCAA Division I Women’s Basketball National Championship has caught the attention of the Women’s Basketball Hall of Fame!
The WBHOF, located in Knoxville, Tennessee, requested the jersey of NJCAA Third Team All-American Sashana Bucknor to hang in the Hall’s “Ring of Honor” for the next year.
In honor of the program’s achievements over the past four years, and the history of ASA Athletics as it celebrates its 5th Anniversary, Head Coach Adia Revell sent the Hall an ASA “throwback” jersey – the #11 road jersey of the Lady Avengers’ first NJCAA All-American Denyse Moore (2009-10), whom Bucknor shares a number with.
Bucknor averaged 12.4 PPG and 11.7 RPG for the first-time District C champions and National Championship qualifiers. ASA – the No. 19 seed in the National Championship – went a program-record 25-4, including a 74-68 victory over No. 14 seed Western Nebraska CC.
Bucknor reached double figures in 20 contests and double-digit rebounds in 21 games, equating to 16 double-doubles on the season. Her game highs in each category were 25 points against Clinton Junior College on December 17 and 21 rebounds against Lenoir CC in the ASA College Tournament on December 22.
The “Ring of Honor” is one of WBHOF’s most popular exhibits, as it is a visual way of recognizing some of the sport’s young basketball players for their achievements. There are currently over 100 jerseys hanging in the “Ring of Honor” and includes high school, NJCAA and NCAA All-Americans. The exhibit is done to fulfill the Hall’s mission to “honor the past, celebrate the present and promote the future” of women’s basketball.
