Manhattan, NY – On Friday, April 20 ASA College swore in thirty Phi Theta Kappa International Honor’s Society inductees into the Beta Rho Chi Chapter.  Dean Jackson led the processional with the Phi Theta Kappa officers; Leena Rodriguez, President; Jaime Vargas, Vice President, Mohamed Djallo, Treasurer; and Cynthia Cruzado, Secretary. The rest of the inductees followed the chapter officers to their seats.

The ceremony was held on the Manhattan campus and was enjoyed by all.  This is the third straight year that ASA has inducted its best and brightest into the chapter.  The students played a major role in the ceremony that started with the invocation by Desrene Smith, student in the Criminal Justice department.  During the ceremony the chapter Officers Leena Rodriguez, Jaime Vargas, Mohamed Djallo, Cynthia Cruzado, and Joseph Cooper were involved in the swearing in process.

The ceremony had a number of speakers which included Dr. Conchetta Gallo, Dean of Academic Programs; Ms. Gloria Longakit, Director of Academic Affairs, Mr. John Fiallos, newly elected Phi Theta Kappa New York State Regional President and Mr. Edgar Romero, Phi Theta Kappa New York State Region Alumni Representative. The ceremony included a testimonial by Chapter President Leena Rodriguez.  The keynote speaker, Mr. Edgar Romero encouraged Leena to share her experiences as Chapter President and she spoke about the way PTK and ASA College has changed her life.  She spoke about her new leadership skills and the offers of scholarship that she is receiving from other schools like the University of Albany and St. John’s.  In addition to the emotional presentation by Leena was an inspiring song that was sung by Desrene Smith.

The ceremony was blessed with the presence of the newly elected PTK NYS Regional President, John Fiallos. Mr. Fiallos presented Dean Jackson with a special advisor medal and he encouraged the students to get involved in giving back through community service.  Mr. Edgar Romero gave the keynote address and his words were appreciated by the audience.  He spoke about the value of PTK in his life and the networking that will lead him to an undergraduate opportunity in England.

Congratulations to all of the inductees and to ASA College for honoring a very special group of students.
