ASA student Alvin Chingcuanco was just announced the winner of the 2011 NYS TESOL Student Essay Contest in the Adult Category. His essay will now appear in the 2011 NYS TESOL conference program and online .https://www.asa.edu/Alvin Chingcuanco with his special guest will join his ESL Advanced Writing Instructor Valentina Portnov during NYS TESOL Conference in October 2011 in Melville, NY to attend a special luncheon dedicated to acknowledging the winners of the essay contest.

Last year, another ASA student, Jie Li Huang, won the Honorable Mention in the 2010 NYS TESOL Essay Contest (Adult Education/University Level). Her essay appeared online https://www.asa.edu/ and in the 2010 NYS TESOL Conference program. She received a NYS TESOL Honorable Mention Certificate by mail and was congratulated by her ESL Instructor Valentina Portnov, ESL Site Coordinator Eva Nemtsan, and ESL Department Faculty in November 2010.

Congratulations to Alvin Chingcuanco and Jie Li Huang, their families, and the ASA community on this great accomplishment!

Happy Purim

Happy Purim Jewish people around the world celebrate the Festival of Purim today to honor the survival of the Jewish people under ancient Persian rule. Purim is one of the most entertaining Jewish holidays and has a carnival-like atmosphere. The celebrations start this evening and end in the evening tomorrow.

The University Eye Center is providing “free” vision screenings on the following dates: Monday March 1st from 1pm to 3pm Monday April 5 from 2pm to 4pm Monday May 24 from 4:30pm to 6:30pm Thursday June 10 from 4:30pm to 6:30pm Monday August 23 from 9:30am to 11:30am Tuesday September 14 from 4pm to 6pm Tuesday November 9 from 4:30pm to 6:30pm Please be advised that these are Vision Screenings not Eye Exams however, Infants under 18 months can have a complete eye exam done for free instead of a screening...
