How to Complete Your FAFSA

Step 1

Create an FSA ID. The FSA ID is a username and password you use to log in to U.S. Department of Education (ED) online systems. The FSA ID is your legal signature and shouldn’t be created or used by anyone other than you. Please protect your FSA ID the same way you do with your bank card PIN number. You can create an FSA ID here StudentAid.gov/fsa-id/create-account or by using myStudentAid mobile app (https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=ItnOr7n2ck4). I included some additional links that I have found very helpful.

Step 2

To apply for federal student aid, you must complete the Free Application for Federal Student Aid (FAFSA®) form at https://studentaid.gov/h/apply-for-aid/fafsa. You will need our federal school code 030955 when completing the FAFSA. The FAFSA will ask questions regarding your parents. Please click on this link to determine if you will need to provide parent information. https://studentaid.gov/sites/default/files/dependency-status.pdf If parent information is required, please make sure one of your parents creates a FSA ID detailed in Step 1. Included below are some additional links on how and who should complete the FAFSA. Please complete both 2021-2022 & 2022-2023 FAFSA applications. When you get to the tax information section, make sure you pay close attention to the tax year. For 2021-2022, you will need to enter 2019 income information and for 2022-2023, you will need to enter 2020 income information.
