Computer Support Specialist
The Computer Support Specialist certiﬁcate program provides an introduction to many areas of information technology including computer architecture, hardware, operating systems, network administration and support. The program is focused to train IT professionals to be competent in maintaining, troubleshooting and administering computers and offers students an intensive hands-on training using our dedicated computer and networking labs. Graduates should be able to provide on-site support for mainly users of Microsoft Windows platform. This program includes courses helpful to pass the CompTIA A+, Network+ and Microsoft Certiﬁed Technology Specialist (MCTS) certiﬁcations, three of the valued certiﬁcations in Information Technology ﬁeld.
Upon successful completion of the program, graduates should be able to demonstrate the ability to:
- Install, conﬁgure and maintain basic computer systems including hardware, peripherals, and commonly used application software and operating systems.
- Diagnose, troubleshoot and resolve hardware, software or other network and system problems, and replace components if necessary.
- Design, install, conﬁgure and maintain local area networks.
- Perform backups and disaster recovery.
As technology drives the 21st-century business market, many companies are bringing their e-commerce and IT divisions in-house. Computer Support Specialists are necessary personnel in every industry, from large IT firms to non-profits. Certified Computer Support Specialists can find positions as tech and customer support, content managers, webmasters, network analysts, IT support staff and repair experts among others. Graduates may choose to seek further related certifications or pursue an associate or baccalaureate degree program upon completion.
The Computer Support Specialist certificate program requires the successful completion of 30 credit hours for graduation.
