Admissions Overview

Applicants to all ASA College programs undergo a selection process that focuses on basic skills assessment. In evaluating candidates, we look for motivation and maturity, the potential to grow and develop, as well as evidence that applicants can benefit from the challenging education offered by the college.

Admissions decisions are made without regard to age, gender, race, creed, religion, national or ethnic origin, physical capability, marital or parental status, or sexual orientation.

Step 2: Take the placement test

The purpose of this test is to determine a student’s level of preparation for credit-bearing college courses. If the results indicate that additional preparation is needed, remedial English and/or math courses will be incorporated into his/her class schedule. This approach ensures that all ASA students will benefit from their courses and can successfully graduate and get a job in their field of study.

Step 3: Schedule a one-on-one interview with an ASA Financial Aid representative

During the enrollment process, every prospective ASA candidate is assured a meeting with a Financial Aid officer.

The goal of this interview is to determine the best possible sources for funding your college education based on your eligibility for financial aid*. This includes scholarships available exclusively to ASA students and college work-study programs.

Step 4: Create your class schedule

To provide you with maximum flexibility in scheduling classes, ASA offers morning, afternoon and evening classes, 7 days week at our Manhattan and Brooklyn campuses. You may also take any of our online courses.

New York State Applicants

If you live within commuting distance of ASA College, we strongly encourage you to attend a career seminar and have an online interview with an admissions representative.

Candidates who have been accepted to the college may be required to meet with an academic advisor to discuss the need for college preparatory courses, if applicable, and register for their first semester of study.

The overall objective of academic advising is to help students realize the maximum educational benefits available to them at ASA College.

Important Information for Resident Applicants:

Applicants living within New York State should consider, along with the general application guidelines, these following points:

To be eligible to attend ASA College, you must have earned a high school diploma or its equivalent (GED) by time of admittance.
All financial aid paperwork should be submitted before your semester commences. NYS residents may be eligible for several financial aid* awards, including Federal PELL Grant and NYS Tuition Assistant Program (TAP). It’s important you visit the Financial Aid Department to discuss your tuition payment options. Furthermore, ASA College offers many scholarships and students are encouraged to apply. In accordance to New York State Public Health Law, all students, present and incoming, who were born on or after January 1, 1957 must provide written proof of adequate immunization records against measles, mumps and rubella. Acceptable proof of immunity consists of a certificate of immunization signed and stamped by a physician or licensed health care provider.

Out-of-State Applicants

Out of state residents interested in applying to ASA College must follow the same application guidelines as in-state students. Students must submit an application and schedule online interview to be considered for admissions to ASA College.

However, if you are unable to attend an interview due to some limitations, special steps can be taken to ensure incoming students are well informed by time of attendance.

More so, ASA College provides various housing options for those interested in living on or off-campus. While available dorm rooms are limited, we provide a multitude of housing alternatives within close distance of our campuses.

Important Information for Out-of-State Applicants:

Out of State Applicants should consider, along with the general application guidelines, these following points:

Students applying for housing must do so in a timely manner. Dorming eligibility is based on several factors and limited to a first come, first served basis. To apply, you will need to contact an Admissions Advisor directly.
If students cannot attend an onliv interview at the time of application, you may request to have it deferred to a later day or choose to communicate via other means. Prospective out-of-state students are still required to attend at Freshman Orientation and a career advisement session prior to beginning the classes at ASA College.
ASA College actively recruits players for our numerous sports programs. Students interested in attending ASA College and participating in any of our NJCAA Division 1 teams must communicate directly with the Athletics department.

International Applicants

This school is authorized under Federal law to enroll nonimmigrant alien students.

International applicants who submit the required materials and meet admissions requirements are issued an I-20 form (Certificate of Eligibility for Non-Immigrant (F-1) Student Status for Academic and Language Students).

Applicants with F-1 Student status are admitted as matriculated students only and must attend ASA College Fulltime. International Students are encouraged to enroll in a medical insurance plan and must arrange for their own housing. Student financial aid is not available for international students.

Important Information for International Applicants:

International Applicants should consider, along with the general application guidelines, these following points:

International students must complete an Application for International Student Admission.
Meet regular ASA College admission requirements.
Provide evidence of high school and, if applicable, college education. Such evidence may include copies of the awards (diplomas, certificates, degrees) or a notarized copy of high school transcript or academic record. Documents that are not in English must be accompanied by a certified translation.
Demonstrate that they have sufficient funds to pay for all educational and living expenses.
Housing is available for international students at an additional cost, please speak to your admissions associate for more information.

Transfer Students

A transfer student is a student who has previously attended another degree-granting post-secondary institution and has successfully completed at least one credit-bearing course.

Applicants who have previously attended any regionally accredited post-secondary institution may be able to transfer courses comparable in content and length to ASA. Students are required to complete maximum of 50% of the courses in the program. Transfer credit will be evaluated once an official copy of the previous college transcript is received.

A transcript is considered to be official when stamped with the official college seal, signed by the appropriate college official and received directly by ASA’s Registrar’s Office in a sealed envelope. Catalog and course descriptions may be requested as well.

Important Information for Transfer Students:

Students considering transferring to ASA College should consider, along with the general application guidelines, these following points:

Applicants must submit official undergraduate transcripts from previous college(s) to the Admissions Office for a transfer credit evaluation. It is the responsibility of an applicant to provide all the necessary documentation in a timely manner. Transfer credit will be considered for individual courses for which a grade of “C” or better has been achieved.
Transfer students who have completed an English Composition and College Math course at an accredited institution with a grade of C or higher may be exempt from the placement test requirement. Please discuss this with your ASA Admissions associate.
Applicants who have completed course work at other accredited U.S. post-secondary institutions may apply for transfer credits and/or seek advanced placement. They should submit transfer credit requests, including official transcripts from previously attended colleges and accompanying documentation, before enrolling.
Students may be allowed transfer credits from colleges and universities in other countries for similar, verifiable, credit-bearing coursework. ASA will award academic credit evaluated on an individual basis for nationally recognized advanced placement examinations such as CLEP, DANTE, and/or Excelsior College (Regents) exams. Students may also be awarded credits for verifiable certifications obtained from nationally recognized organizations such as Microsoft, CICSO, and Sun Systems, etc.
