Sharon Garbutt Name: Sharon Garbutt

My name is Sharon Garbutt and I am a single mother of three. Prior to enrolling at ASA, I was working in retail doing a job that was just that: a job! I have been thinking for a number of years that if I ever wanted to put my two younger daughters through college, I would have to make a drastic change in my career.

I became concerned about my transition as I was already past my thirties, but a visit to the Admissions Office and talking to an ASA representative helped put my mind at ease. I signed up before I left the building and enrolled in the Medical Assisting with Medical Billing course.

My first day at ASA was a breeze! The professors made it easy for us to understand the course’s curriculum. Before I knew it, I was halfway through the course with a 3.75 GPA and looking forward to starting my final semester. This was where I met with one of the best, if not the best professor, Miss Lisa as she likes to be called. Her name is Lisa Bynoe and she was my Billing and Reimbursement instructor. She made what would have otherwise been difficult course very easy to understand. She was patient and she broke things down in terms we were able to understand. Thank you Miss Lisa!

I graduated ASA- The College for Excellence and met with my Career Advisor, Claudia Drobchinsky. Claudia helped me put together a resume. I maintained close contact with her throughout the weeks that followed. She sent my resume to every available job opening and before I knew it, appointments were coming in. I had three interviews in one week and before that week was over I landed the job of my dreams. Now I’m looking forward to starting my career as a Medical Biller. Without Claudia’s assistance, I wouldn’t have been able to do it. I owe my gratitude to her and the exceptional staff and professors at ASA. Thank you ASA!
