Women’s Tennis Has Good Showing at Small College National Championships

Mobile, AL---This past weekend, the ASA women’s tennis doubles team of Simona Mrazova (Bratislava, Slovak Republic/Q.S.I.) and Soizette Simmons (Brooklyn, NY/Lincoln) travelled down to Mobile, AL to compete in the ITA/Wilson Small College National Championships in the Doubles section of the tournament. The team faced its biggest test as a first year program facing off against Hillsborough’s 1st doubles team, the highest seed in the tourney from the #1 ranked team in the nation. The team was competitive but was defeated. On the second day of competition, Simmons and Mrazova defeated Marion Military Institute 2 sets to 1. The team finished played their last match against Hillsborough’s other team in the tourney and were even until ASA was forced to retire due to illness in the 2nd set. The team finished 6th out of 9 teams that qualified in the nation, which is a great feat considering that they went in unseeded and is only in its first season as a program.

The entire women’s tennis team will take the court again as they travel to Maryland to square off against Harford CC October 20th at 3:30pm.
