Denyse Moore and Roberto Colonette Named NJCAA Basketball All-Americans
April 1, 2010
Brooklyn, NY--- This morning, the NJCAA released the men’s and women’s basketball All-American selections. We are proud to announce that ASA received a selection from both men’s and women’s teams for their efforts this season.
Denyse Moore- 3rd Team All-American
For women’s side, Denyse Moore (Hampton, VA/Woodside), was named a 3rd Team All-American. The reigning Region XV Player of the Year served as the Lady Avengers’ lead guard and put up very stellar numbers while doing so. Moore led the Lady Avengers in scoring with 14.1 per contest, including 4 contests where she scored twenty points or more. She also led the team in assists with a little over six per game, including season highs with 11 in three different contests. Moore was just as good on the other side of the ball where her constant ball hawking against opponents, allowed her to a team-leading 2.6 steals per game and an astounding ten steals against rival TCI. The sophomore was a huge component of the Lady Avengers’ immediate success as a program only in its first year of existence as an NJCAA affiliated team. The team finished with an 11-8 record, including a trip to the Region XV Division I Championship game.
Roberto Colonette- Honorable Mention All-American
Denyse Moore is accompanied on one of the All-American Teams by ASA men’s basketball’s Roberto Colonette (Queens, NY/Robert F. Kennedy). The 6-7 sophomore forward was as steady and as reliable as anyone in the region this year. The Honorable Mention All-American would finish the season playing and starting in all of the Avengers’ 28 games with a scoring average of 13.1 (second on the team), a rebounding average of 8.57, and on the defensive end, 2.036 blocks per game. Colonette had a team-high in scoring for the season with 29 points against TCI on February 18th. Colonette helped the Avengers reach the Region XV Division I Championship game for the second year in a row in only its second year as a program. He finished the final game of his career at ASA scoring a team-high 23 points and pulling down nine rebounds. On top of his exploits on the court, Colonette is a positive figure in the community, volunteering his time at different youth centers in the Queens area.
