THE ASA AVENGERS ARE THE 2013 CARRIER DOME BOWL CHAMPIONS!
In a game which pitted two highly respected defensive teams against each other, the Avengers proved to be too much with the pass for the Chaparrels in the end. On their first offensive possession, the Avengers would score on a 19-yard pass and reception from Aaron Young to Quinton Sullivan. Sullivan would be named the Offensive Most Valuable Player of the game finishing with 120 yards receiving on six catches including two touchdowns.
The game would remain 7-0 ASA until DuPage kicker would finish a 38-yard drive by the Chapparels with a 27-yard field goal with :48 to go in the the first half. ASA answered with six-play driving leading to a 41-yard Dillon Lawson field goal (his longest make of the season) with :05 remaining in the first half. The Avengers would go into the half with the 10-3 lead.
ASA received to open the second half. After a 30-yard kickoff return by Olu Izegwire, the Avengers marched down to the DuPage 22-yard. Young and Sullivan would connect again for a touchdown on a 22-yard catch and run.
After each drove deep into the other's territory a couple of times, the Avengers would strike for the last time. The Avengers regained possession off of a Shaquille Joyner fumble recovery at the DuPage 22-yard line. ASA made their way down to 1st and goal at the DuPage 9-yard. After sack and a couple of short gains, the Avengers found themselves with 4th down and goal at the DuPage 15-yard line. Aaron Young had the answer, finding sophomore tight end Dahon Taylor in the end zone.
Freshman defensive lineman Monte Taylor would be named Most Valuable Defensive Player of the game. He finished with seven tackles including two sacks and two forced fumbles.
Sophomore middle linebacker Rashaun Smith ended his career at ASA with seven tackles of his own.
The Avengers now add a bowl game win to their resume that already includes back-to-back Northeast Football Conference championships. ASA's loss this season came in their first game of the season against #1 Georgia Military who will play for a national championship in a couple of weeks. The Avengers are the only team this season that came within a touchdown of the Bulldogs.
