Women’s Basketball: Lady Avengers Open 2012 With Rout of Lackawanna

BROOKLYN, NY --- ASA Women’s Basketball started the New Year with a bang, completing a season sweep of Lackawanna with a dominant 66-39 victory over the Lady Falcons on Saturday at NYU-Poly. The win moves ASA to 11-1 on the season.

The backcourt duo of freshman Deborah Anderson (Tacoma, WA) and sophomore Latasia Ward (Bronx, NY) led the way for ASA once again. Anderson led the Lady Avengers with 18 points, six rebounds and five steals. Ward scored 16 points, grabbed seven rebounds and notched a pair of assists & steals as well.

After Lackawanna scored the first basket of the game to grab a 2-0 advantage, Anderson knocked down a three-pointer to give ASA a lead they would never relinquish.

Freshman forward Sashana Bucknor (New Haven, CT) and sophomore forward Tanikqua McFarlane (Queens, NY) paced ASA in rebounds, pulling down eleven apiece, while sophomore guard Ashley Watson (Detroit, MI) led the team in assists with six.

ASA has a full slate of home games coming up against rivals from the Garden State. Union CC comes to St. Francis for a 6pm game on January 10th. Next, Essex CC comes to Brooklyn for the first part of a 6pm & 8pm doubleheader on January 12 at NYU-Poly. Finally, Burlington CC makes the trip north for a 2pm game (site TBD).
