Men’s Basketball: ASA Holds Off Invasion of Vikings, 82-74 January 7, 2011 ![]() Riverdale, NY---- The ASA men’s basketball team defeated Westchester CC tonight 82-74 for their first win of 2012 and their first in Region XV to improve to 1-0 (11-3 overall). ASA jumped out to a 14-0 lead to start the game. Westchester would not score until 13:55 remaining in the first half. Two minutes later the Vinkings would go on a run on their own to cut the lead to 18-17 with 9:55 to go in the first half. WCC would take the lead briefly in the first half by two points with 7:08 to go in the half. The teams would go into halftime locked at 37. The second half would be a seesaw battle that would see nine ties. ASA would eventually pull away with 2:27 left to play by making their free throws down the stretch. ASA was led by sophomore guard Sa’Quan Davis (Washington, DC)[Pictured] freshman guard Rysheen Dorn (Philadelphia, PA) who each scored 13 points. Davis had a good nose for the ball all night, coming up with 5 of the Avengers 13 steals. Freshmen Mike Mcleod (Newburgh, NY) and Daquan Brickhouse (Peekskill, NY) both added 11 points. Brickhouse would also dish out 7 assists. ASA improves to 11-3 with the win and pushes their winning-streak to eight. The Avengers will play host to Essex CC on Thursday, January 12th at NYU-Poly as part of a double-header with the Lady Avengers. The women will play at 6pm followed by the men at 8pm. |
