DAVIE, FL --- 2011 ended on a great note for the ASA Lady Avengers as they bounced back from their first loss of the season to defeat Miami Dade College, 58-48 on New Year’s Eve. ASA heads into 2012 with a 10-1 overall record.

Freshman guard Deborah Anderson (Tacoma, WA) led the way with 17 points and found her three-point stroke again, nailing 4-of-8 triples in the game. Anderson also had three assists, three steals and two rebounds. Sophomore guard Latasia Ward (Bronx, NY) put up 11 points of her own, to go along with four rebounds and three steals.

ASA steadily built up their lead in the early goings and held double-digit leads during the later part of the first half. The Lady Avengers went up by as much as eleven in the period and ended it with the same lead, 33-22.

ASA would extend their lead to thirteen, 51-38, with 7:26 remaining in the second half. Miami Dade went on a 10-4 run over the next 5:06 to cut the lead to seven, 55-48, but would get no further.

The sophomore post tandem of Ariel Thomas (New York, NY) and Tanikqua McFarlane (Queens, NY) make a huge all-around impact on the game, combining for 13 points (7 and 6), 22 rebounds (10 and 11), and seven blocks (4 and 3).

ASA will open 2012 with games against Columbia University JV on Friday, January 6th in Manhattan and at home against Lackawanna on Saturday, January 7th.
