WARWICK, RI --- Facing their second 8-2 opponent in three days, the Women’s Basketball team stumbled out of the gate but showed poise & toughness in posting a 53-44 over CCRI on Saturday afternoon. The victory kept the Lady Avengers perfect at 8-0 heading into Wednesday’s matchup with Region XV rival, Globe Institute.

The Knights opened the game on fire, knocking down several three-pointers and holding a 14-4 lead with 12 minutes left in the first half. ASA would chip away at the deficit, tying the game at 25-25 with 16.9 seconds left. ASA would get a last-second steal and an Angel Porter layup with three seconds remaining in the half gave the Lady Avengers the lead, 27-25.

The second half would provide much of the same action as the first, as the teams traded baskets and possession of the lead. However, with the score tied at 33-33 with 12:30 left in the game, ASA would outscore CCRI 20-11 to pull away with the game.

Sophomore center Brittany Webb (New York, NY) [PICTURED] posted a double-double of 12 points and 11 rebounds. Webb went 4-for-14 from the field and 4-for-5 from the free throw line. Freshman guard Deborah Anderson (Tacoma, WA) was the other Lady Avenger in double figures, also scoring 12 points. Sophomore guard Angel Porter (Brooklyn, NY) had another solid game off the bench, scoring eight points on 4-for-8 shooting, along with four assists and two steals.
