SCRANTON, PA --- The ASA women’s basketball team made the trip from Brooklyn to Scranton Thursday night for their highly-anticipated matchup against Lackawanna College. The game lived up to its billing as the Lady Avengers battled the Lady Falcons and secured a 71-56 win to remain undefeated on the season.

The ASA reserves made major contributions in the game. Sophomore guard Angel Porter (Brooklyn, NY) has her best game as a Lady Avenger, scoring 17 points on 5-for-12 shooting. She went 7-for-9 from the free throw line and also had four assists, three steals and three rebounds. Porter’s aggressiveness helped keep Lackawanna at bay whenever the Lady Falcons threatened to make a run. Freshman guard Deborah Anderson (Tacoma, WA) filled up the basket once again, scoring a game-high 19 points off the bench.

Overall, ASA’s second unit outscored Lackawanna 44-14 on the evening.

Sophomore guards Ashley Watson (Detroit, MI) and Latasia Ward (Bronx, NY) rounded out the Lady Avengers in double figures, each notching 10 points. Watson posted a double-double, adding 12 rebounds else as well.

ASA led by twelve at halftime, 35-23, and went up by as much as 14 points early in the second half. Lackawanna would chip away throughout the frame, narrowing the margin to five, 57-52, with four minutes to go. However, a 14-4 run sealed the deal for ASA.

The Lady Avengers return to action on Saturday, December 17 when they travel to face CCRI for a 2:00 PM contest. ASA’s final home game of 2011 will be Wednesday, December 21, as the Women’s and Men’s Basketball host Region XV rival Globe Institute. The doubleheader begins at 6:00 PM at NYU-Poly.
