Women’s Basketball: ASA Easily Completes Sweep of Kingsborough

December 6, 2011

Deborah Anderson

BROOKLYN, NY --- The Lady Avengers won the second round of the “Battle of Brooklyn” much like the first one – in convincing fashion. ASA defeated the Wave, 90-42, on Monday evening at the KCC Gym.

Freshman guard Deborah Anderson (Tacoma, WA) [PICTURED] had another stellar game, pouring in a season-high 27 points on 12-for-21 shooting, including 3-for-9 from long range. Anderson tied the all-time single game scoring mark set by former Lady Avenger guard Tyche’ Mozie (Washington, DC), who posted 27 points against Hostos Community College on 12/15/09.

Anderson also recorded five rebounds, three steals and two assists. She was joined in double figures by sophomore center Brittany Webb (New York, NY) – 13 points, 10 rebounds, three blocks, two steals – and sophomore guard Latasia Ward (Bronx, NY) – 19 points, nine rebounds, seven assists, and three steals.

ASA played aggressively throughout the game, implementing their full court press and putting their height & strength advantages to good use. Eight players for the Lady Avengers recorded a steal in the game, and eight players also recorded an assist on the night. Sophomore guard Ashley Watson (Detroit, MI) led the way in both categories with nine steals and eight assists to go along with her six points and five rebounds. Sophomore guard Angel Porter (Brooklyn, NY) provided a spark of the bench in her home borough, dishing out six assists and recording two steals.

ASA hits the road next week for its two biggest challenges to date. The Lady Avengers will face Lackawanna on December 15 at 6pm and CCRI on December 17 at 2pm.
