LADY AVENGERS BEGIN SEASON IN OVERWHELMING FASHION, DEFEAT DUTCHESS CC November 4, 2011 ![]() POUGHKEEPSIE, NY – The ASA Women’s Basketball team opened their 2011-12 campaign with a dominating 104-26 victory over Dutchess Community College on Friday evening. ASA (1-0) led from beginning to end and stayed consistent with their attack on the Lady Falcons. Five players scored in double figures for the Lady Avengers, led by sophomore Latasia Ward (Bronx, NY) [PICTURED], who posted a career-high 23 points on 8-for-15 shooting. Ward also grabbed eight rebounds, dished out five assists, and notched seven steals in the contest. The other ASA players to score in double digits were freshman Deborah Anderson (Tacoma, WA) [18 pts, 6 reb, 8 ast, 5 stl], sophomore Brittany Webb (Harlem, NY) [15 pts, 6 reb], sophomore Cristal Liriano (New York, NY) [10 pts, 4 reb, 6 ast, 3 stl] and freshman Jade Wharton (Wilmington, DE) [10 pts, 3 reb, 4 stl]. ASA controlled both ends of the court, shooting over 52% from the field, posting 26 assists on their 42 field goals, recording 28 steals and holding Dutchess to 13 points in each half. The 104 points was the second-highest scoring output in program history (106 points vs. Hostos, 1/26/09) and the 78 point margin of victory was the highest in program history, eclipsing the 76-point victory the team posted vs. Globe on December 5, 2009, 92-16. The Lady Avengers return to action on November 8 as they travel to Kingsborough Community College. Tip-Off is set for 6pm. |
