BUFFALO, NY---- Fighting pretty rough field conditions and the Western New York wind, the Avengers were able to go to the air on big possessions to pull out the 23-13 win at Erie on Saturday afternoon. The win helps ASA improve to 3-3 overall on the season and 2-2 in conference play.

The Avengers struck first late in the first quarter on a 9-yard rush fumbled by freshman running back, Isaiah Moody (Staten Island, NY) and recovered in the end zone by sophomore wide receiver Jerol Wilson (Brooklyn, NY). ASA would go into the second quarter with the 7-0 lead.

ASA would add to their lead in the second quarter on a Cherchen Aloema (Miami, FL) 27-yard field goal after a 62-yard offensive drive with 4:26 left to play in the half. ASA would go into the second half with 10-0 lead.

Erie would make the game interesting by scoring first in the second half cutting the Avenger lead to 10-7. ASA would answer Erie’s call right away on an 87-yard touchdown pass and reception from sophomore Jared Johnston (Dumfries, VA) to freshman wide receiver Isiah Ferguson (Mount Vernon, NY) [#14 PICTURED]. Ferguson would have a career day with five receptions for 193 yards and a touchdown.

The ‘Kats would score again with 6:10 remaining left in the third quarter cutting the ASA to 17-13. Erie would fail on the two-point conversion. It would be their last score.

The Avengers would add an insurance score with 1:14 to go in the third quarter on a 10-yard Isaiah Moody rushing touchdown. In the fourth quarter, the ASA defense would shutdown the Erie offense and some, forcing -3 net yardage for the ‘Kats. Freshman defensive back, Theo Alexander (St. Louis, MO) would have his third straight solid week in a row with ten tackles on the afternoon (8 solo) and a broken up pass.

ASA will take the field again next Sunday, October 30th, when they travel to Widener University to take on their JV squad. Kickoff is scheduled for 4pm. The Avengers return home November 5th at Old Boys High Field where they will take on NFC member Louisburg. That kickoff is slated for noon.
