Women’s Basketball Sends First Player to Division I August 6, 2011 ![]() BROOKLYN, NY – Sophomore Christina Delille (Queens, NY/Notre Dame Prep) has accepted a full scholarship to finish her academic and athletic career at Hampton University, becoming the first Lady Avenger to sign with a NCAA Division I institution. A 5-5 guard, Delille’s remarkable scoring and playmaking ability were essential to the Lady Avengers winning their first Region XV Tournament Championship and advancing to their first District III (National Qualifier) Final. She averaged 10.0 PPG, doubling her output from her freshman campaign, to go along with 4.0 RPG and 2.5 APG. Delille posted twelve double-digit games in 2010-2011 (four of 20 or more), and elevated her game in the clutch, averaging 17.6 PPG and 5.0 RPG against the likes of Monroe Community College, Monroe College, Lackawanna and Harcum. "We are very happy to have Christina as a part of our program," said Hampton Women's Basketball Head Coach David Six when asked about Delille joining the Lady Pirates. “She brings much needed offensive power and the ability to attack the basket. When looking to break into the New York area, we have searched for a certain type of player; Christina fits that description. She’s a great addition to what we already have at Hampton." Hampton finished the 2010-2011 campaign with a record of 25-7, winning the Mid-Eastern Athletic Conference (MEAC) Tournament and advancing to the NCAA Tournament as a 13-seed, nearly upsetting 4th-seeded Kentucky in the First Round. |
