Trio of Lady Avengers Set to Roar as Lady Lions

August 5, 2011

BROOKLYN, NY – Women’s Basketball’s inaugural class of student-athletes moving on to four-year institutions has produced a 1-2-3 punch, as two sophomores from the 2010-2011 season, along with a member of ASA’s first NJCAA team, have all accepted scholarships to continue their academic and athletic careers at Division II Lincoln University of Pennsylvania.

Sophomore Forwards Leryncia Miller (Staten Island, NY/St. Peter’s) and Darleen McLeod (Bronx, NY/John F. Kennedy), along with Denyse Moore (Hampton, VA/Woodside), the most decorated Lady Avenger in the program’s young history, have all committed to play for the Lady Lions, beginning in the 2011-12 season.

Miller, a 6-0 forward, led the team in scoring as a sophomore at 12.0 PPG and was third on the team in rebounding with 6.3 RPG. The All-Region XV Second Team selection in 2009-2010 recorded career totals of 11.5 PPG and 5.7 RPG while shooting 47% from the field. Miller was the first player in Lady Avengers history to average double digits in scoring during both seasons at ASA.

McLeod, a 5-10 forward, appeared in 23 career games, posting averages of 6.5 PPG and 6.1 RPG while shooting 40% from the field. McLeod was setting a stellar pace during the 2010-11 campaign – with averages of 9.2 PPG and 8.2 RPG – before a knee injury abruptly ended her season and career at ASA. However, the NJCAA approved her request for a Medical Hardship, paving the way for Darleen to compete with the Lady Lions for three seasons.

Moore, a 5-7 guard, was named a 2009-10 NJCAA Division I All-American & Region XV Division I Player of the Year after averaging 14.1 PPG, 6.1 APG, 3.0 RPG and 2.7 SPG during her lone season at ASA. Moore scored in double figures 14 times, including four 20-point games. She also posted five double-double games in her career. Before coming to ASA, Moore played as a freshman at Delaware State University (NCAA Division I) during the 2008-2009 campaign.
