Lady Avenger Finds Home At Ursuline

August 5, 2011

Bernard

Brooklyn, NY– Sophomore Shanade (Queens, NY/Queens HS of Teaching) has decided to continue her career as a student-athlete at Ohio-based Ursuline College, accepting a scholarship to play for the Arrows next season.

A 6-1 forward, Bernard has been an asset to the Lady Avengers program on and off the court. During her two seasons at ASA, Bernard appeared in 44 games and registered averages of 3.0 PPG and 2.2 RPG. She posted her career highs in points and rebounds as a freshman in 2009-2010, scoring 14 points against Hostos Community on 1/26/2010 and grabbing nine rebounds against Genesee Community College on 12/13/2009. Her solid freshman campaign led to her selection to the 2010 All-Region Second Team.

Off the court, Bernard has been the epitome of a student-athlete, pacing the Women’s Basketball program with a 3.69 cumulative Grade Point Average. Her tireless work in the classroom and dedication to the Lady Avengers was rewarded this season with her being named a 2010-2011 NJCAA Academic Award recipient. She was honored with the Exemplary Academic Achievement award, which recognizes student-athletes who maintained between 3.60 and 3.79 GPA.

Ursuline, a women’s college outside of Cleveland, will be entering Year Two of its Candidacy as it transitions from NAIA to NCAA Division II. Head Coach Nelson Schorr said of Shanade, "We are proud to bring Shanade into our program. We look forward to Shanade bringing an interior presence on both ends of the floor as well as bringing some leadership to our young team. We know Shanade will come in and make an immediate impact from day one and we feel that she will be a valuable asset to our program."
