ASA student Alvin Chingcuanco was just announced the winner of the 2011 NYS TESOL Student Essay Contest in the Adult Category. His essay will now appear in the 2011 NYS TESOL conference program and online .http://nystesol.org/sig/contest/index.phpAlvin Chingcuanco with his special guest will join his ESL Advanced Writing Instructor Valentina Portnov during NYS TESOL Conference in October 2011 in Melville, NY to attend a special luncheon dedicated to acknowledging the winners of the essay contest.
Last year, another ASA student, Jie Li Huang, won the Honorable Mention in the 2010 NYS TESOL Essay Contest (Adult Education/University Level). Her essay appeared online http://nystesol.org/sig/contest/2010.php#univhon and in the 2010 NYS TESOL Conference program. She received a NYS TESOL Honorable Mention Certificate by mail and was congratulated by her ESL Instructor Valentina Portnov, ESL Site Coordinator Eva Nemtsan, and ESL Department Faculty in November 2010.
