Football: Former ASA Nose Tackle, Gilbert Pena, Featured In Clarion-Ledger

June 3, 2011

Gilbert

Brooklyn, NY - This past weekend, former Avenger nose tackle, Gilbert Pena (Yonkers, NY), was featured in the Clarion-Ledger, a Mississippi-based news publication. After graduating from ASA, Gilbert accepted a scholarship to play football at the University of Mississippi. Pena had a monster season for the Avengers in 2010, starting nine games, recording 18 tackles for a loss and five sacks. For his efforts, he was named to the All-Northeast Football Conference First Team. Pena is joined by ASA teammate Ivan Nicholas (Jacksonville, FL) at Ole Miss, which competes in the Southeast Conference, argued by many the most competitive college football conference in the nation.

The article tells of Pena’s road from his high school days in Yonkers to ASA and eventually to Oxford, MS (Ole Miss’s location). It is an inspirational story that the ASA community should be very proud of. To read the story of Gilbert Pena click on the link below.
