Fishkill, NY - After a stellar pitching performance on Tuesday by ASA’s Jonathan Sanchez (Cotui, DR), THE Avengers would take the field again against region foe, Monroe, in the two teams’ first doubleheader match-up of the season. The first game of the doubleheader would prove to by very exciting, going into extra innings with a 1-1 tie going into the 8th. Sophomore starter Isaac Gil(Pictured) (New York, NY) pitched 8 solid innings, keeping the Avengers in the contest the whole way. In the top of the eighth inning, the avengers broke the tie scoring one run. Monroe would wind up tying the game in the bottom of the eight. However, in the bottom of the 9th the Avengers would produce three runs of their own to go up 5-2. Monroe would not go away, scoring two runs in the bottom of the ninth. However, this would not be enough as ASA freshman pitcher Yeifri Isabel (Bronx, NY) would close the game on a strike out for an ASA 5-4 win. In Game 2, Monroe would get a solid pitching performance from Edvardas Matusevicious for the 3-0 win.

The Avengers are back to action tomorrow with another doubleheader at Dutchess Stadium against Monroe in the rubber-matches for regional bragging rights. The first game will begin at noon.
