New York, NY—It was an early evening full of enthusiastic guest speakers, beautiful artwork, and the celebration of life. More specifically it was the celebration of the life, determination, and artwork of ASA student, Lisa Baw.
Last evening, the ASA community and beyond joined together to celebrate Lisa as a student, as an artist, and most importantly as a human being. The program consisted of an art exhibition put on by Lisa Baw and her parents, guest speakers all acknowledging Ms. Baw, and ended with refreshments.
The speaking program was led by master of ceremonies, ASA professor, Frank Zhu. ASA Senior Vice President, Alexander Agafonov would give the welcome address followed by Roberto Dumual who would give the introduction of all of the special guest speakers. The first speaker ASA was honored to have on the panel this evening was Ambassador Andrew J.C. Kao, the Director-General of the Tapei Economic and Cultural Office in New York. Mr. Kao’s eloquent speech was one of nothing but praise of Ms. Baw and her work, which would merit a standing ovation from the crowded auditorium. The next speaker was Jenny Hou, a representative of the New York City Comptroller’s Office who also had glowing remarks about Ms. Baw and was honored to speak on her behalf. Ms. Beata Szpura was the next speaker. Ms. Szpura is a professor from Queensborough Community College and is also Ms. Baw’s personal art teacher. Her speech was very heart felt because of her account of actually being able to watch Lisa grow as an artist over the years. Fittingly, Ms. Baw, the true star of the show, followed her art mentor. Smiles filled the room as Lisa gave her speech and thanked everyone in her life. It was the climax to a wonderful evening. ASA President, Mr. Alex Shchegol would give the closing, thanking all of the esteemed guests and especially Lisa Baw and her family for their hard work and enthusiasm.
Congratulations to Ms. Baw and her family on such a remarkable exhibit and ceremony. The ASA community is very proud.
