Football: Former Avengers Fair Well in Spring Games April 17, 2011 ![]() (Left-Right: Vincent Brown, Ivan Nicholas, Gilbert Pena, Malcolm Eugene) Brooklyn, NY - Three former Avengers who played their Spring games this weekend faired very well for their respective four-year universities. Let’s first go down south to the University of Mississippi (Ole Miss) where former ASA safety, Ivan Nicholas (Jacksonville, FL), and nose tackle, Gilbert Pena (Yonkers, NY), signed full-athletic scholarships this past December after graduating from ASA. Both had a productive outing suiting up for the Rebels for the first time in their inter-squad Grove Bowl game. Nicholas would finish the game with four tackles and an interception which he returned for 92 yards! Pena would also make his impact immediately, recording 2 tackles on the afternoon. Their play would merit a post-game comment from Ole Miss Head Football Coach, Houston Nutt, stating, "….I really feel like every one of our junior college guys are going to help us this year and that is exciting." (Olemisssports.com) Not too far away in Philadelphia, PA, former ASA wide receiver, Malcolm Eugene (Huntington, NY), would make his own impact on Temple University’s Cherry and White game. Eugene would make the stat sheet by making an 11-reception for the winning "White Team". Back on April 9th, former ASA offensive tackle, Vincent Brown (Miami, FL), participated on the offensive line in the University of Southern Mississippi's annual Black and Gold Game. Stay tuned for more updates on former Avengers making a name for themselves at the next level! |
