Baseball: Avengers Spilt Doubleheader with Keystone (NCAA) JV

April 14, 2011

Brooklyn, NY - The ASA baseball team split a doubleheader this afternoon with Keystone JV, a four-year NCAA affiliated school. The Avengers move to a 21-9 overall record after the doubleheader.

Despite an uneven outing by sophomore pitcher, Isaac Gil (New York, NY), the Avengers’ offense was able to push the contest into extra innings. Freshman right fielder Eduardo Valdez (Los Mina, DR) provided his third and region-leading homerun of the season. However, the Avengers could not hold on giving up the winning run in extra innings.

The Avengers made the necessary alterations for Game 2, leading to a better outcome of a 9-8 win. Again, in a tight situation, ASA would have the last laugh. Down 8-6 in the bottom of the seventh inning with two outs and runners on second and third base, freshman shortstop Yariel Medina (Pictured) (Dominican Republic) would hit a shot over left field to win the game 9-8.

The Avengers will again host regional rival Globe tomorrow at Old Boys High for a doubleheader. The first game of the doubleheader is scheduled for noon with the second game to immediately follow.
