Football: More Signings for the Avengers January 21, 2011 ![]() Brooklyn, NY---- The Avengers added three more players that have signed with four-year NCAA schools this past week. The second bunch comes after the five players that have already signed full athletic scholarships to play at Division I-A schools. The first five include nose tackle Gilbert Pena (Ole Miss), defensive back Ivan Nicholas (Ole Miss), offensive tackle Vincent Brown (Southern Miss), offensive tackle Domonique Wharton (Bowling Green), and wide receiver Malcolm Eugene (Temple).All five signed on the mid-year signing day of December 15, 2010. Sophomore running back Wandy Saintilien (Miami, FL) was the first of the second bunch to sign. Saintilien has chosen to suit up for Division I-AA Wagner College (Staten Island, NY) for the remaining two years of his college career. Saintilien finished the 2010 season as ASA’s leading rusher this season with 600 yards in games played, averaging 75 yards per game and 4.8 yards per carry. His efforts led to Second-Team All-Conference in the Northeast Football Conference. Sophomore defensive end Chris Watson (Brooklyn, NY) was the second to sign this past week. Watson will take the gridiron for the next two football seasons for Division I-AA Stephen F. Austin University (Nacogdoches, TX). The First-Team All-NFC and NJCAA Honorable Mention All-American had two stellar seasons for the Avengers. This past season Chris had 47 tackles (23 for a loss) and eight sacks in eight games played for the Avengers. Stephen F. Austin finished the 2010 season ranked 8th nationally in the Division I-AA poll. The team will also be defending their Southland Conference championship for the third year in a row. The last of the signees this past week was sophomore defensive back Jerry Watters (Lindenwold, NJ) who will join ASA teammate, Malcolm Eugene, at Division I-A Temple University (Philadelphia, PA). Converted from wide receiver, Watters had a stellar season in the secondary for ASA during the 2010 campaign. Watters would receive Third Team All-NFC accolades after the 2010 season. |
