Men's Basketball: Avengers Fall to Monroe 56-48 January 20, 2011 ![]() Brooklyn, NY---- ASA lost a hard-fought defensive battle tonight at home against region rival, Monroe 56-48. The loss drops ASA to 11-4 on the season and 1-2 in Region XV-Division I play. Monroe improves to 16-4 overall and 1-0 in the region. Monroe jumped out to an 18-5 lead with 9:22 to go in the first half. ASA would go on a 10-4 run by 4:03 left in the first half to close in within seven points of the Mustangs. However, Monroe would make an 8-1 going into the half with a 30-16 lead. Monroe would increase their largest lead off the game (21) within the first three minutes of the second half. The Avengers battled back closing within six points on two made free throws by freshman guard Lamont Middleton (Harlem, NY) with 1:17 to go in the game. Unfortunately for the Avengers, the Mustangs would protect the basketball and make free throws at the end of the game to secure the win. ASA had twenty-three turnovers to Monroe’s fifteen. Monroe had the slight rebounded edge of 42-38. Sophomore guard Allan Thomas (Queens, NY) led ASA with eleven points. Lamont Middleton (Harlem, NY) added nine points on 4-5 shooting to go along with seven rebounds and two steals. Next up for the Avengers: Harcum College, Saturday, January 22 @ 6pm.
