January 17, 2011

Valhalla, NY--- The men’s basketball team remained undefeated in 2011 so far with their 81-72 win over Westchester CC tonight. They also picked up their first win in Region XV-Division I play. The Avengers improve to 11-3 on the season and 1-1 in Region XV-Division I play.

The Avengers jumped out to a quick 10-0 run to start the game. However, Westchester was able to find some life and battle back to keep the game close the majority of the first half. ASA would go into halftime with the 36-35 lead.

The Westcos would go on an 8-2 run to go up as many as six points in the first half. With a little over four minutes to go in the game, ASA would make their final push with key made shots and steals. The Avengers also made their free throws when they counted, connecting on 21 of 28 attempts for the game.

The Avengers were lead by freshman guard Lamont Middleton's (Harlem, NY) game-high seventeen points. Middleton also added seven rebounds to his scoring and was a perfect 9-9 from the charity stripe. Sophomore forward, Keenan Belle (Brooklyn, NY), added fifteen points and pulled down six boards. Sophomore center, Kevin Briggs (Providenc1e, RI), was a huge presence in the middle by recording seven blocked shots on the evening and altering plenty of others.

The Avengers take the floor again on Thursday, January 20th as they take on region rival, Monroe College, home at St. Francis College (Brooklyn, NY). Tip-off is scheduled for 7pm.
