| Avengers Unite in 2010: ASA Athletics' 2010 Highlights December 30, 2010 Brooklyn, NY---- It has been a great year for the ASA athletic program in only its second year of existence as a department. The year has been filled with wins, rankings, championships, new hires, and development of facilities. Here some of this year’s highlights. Happy New Year and look for the Avengers to be even better in 2011! Football- Played first home game ever on September 4, 2010.
- First season as a member of the Northeast Football Conference.
- Ranked as high as #18 in the nation according to the National Junior College Athletic Association (NJCAA)poll.
- Ranked in the top 20 in the nation in the NJCAA poll for three weeks.
- Played in conference championship game.
- Four players were named to the All-Northeast Football Conference First Team and four others were named to the All-Conference Second Team.
- Five players signed National Letters of Intent to NCAA Division I-A universities on December 15, 2010 including two players to the University of Mississippi (Ole Miss).
- Sophomore defensive end and Brooklyn resident, Keith Watson, was named an NJCAA All-American.
Men’s Basketball - Team finishes 2009-10 season with a 22-6 record
- Appeared in the Region XV Division I championship game.
- Sophomore forward, Roberto Colonette (Queens, NY) was named the Region XV Division Player of the Year and an NJCAA All-American.
- Roberto Colonette signs a National Letter of Intent to continue his basketball and academic career at Division I, Manhattan College.
Baseball - Finished 2010 season with a 31-12 record
- Captured the Region XV Division Championship by defeating Monroe College.
- Appeared in the Region XX Championship Tournament making it to final game.
- Sophomore centerfielder, Juan Arroyo (Bronx, NY), was named the Region XV Division I Player of the Year
- Six players were named All-Region XV Division I
- Head Coach, Francisco Perez, was named Region XV Division I Coach of the Year
Women's Basketball - Played season as an NJCAA intercollegiate basketball team.
- Finished 2009-10 season with a winning record.
- Appeared in Region XV Division I championship game.
- Sophomore guard, Denyse Moore (Hampton, VA), was named Region XV Player Division I of the Year and an NJCAA All-American.
- Head Coach, Adia Revell, was named Region XV Division I Coach of the Year.
- Five players garnered All-Region honors.
Women's Tennis - Finish the Spring 2010 season ranked #7 in the nation according to the ITA NJCAA poll.
- Qualified for the NJCAA Nationals held in Tuscon, AZ in the Spring of 2010.
- First Doubles Team would appear in the Nationals finals.
- Three players would be named NJCAA All-Americans for their efforts at Nationals.
- Team would host the ITA Regional Tournament at the US Tennis Center, the home of the US Open in the fall 2010.
- Sophomore, Tetiana Kovalska (Simperpol, Ukraine) would win the ITA Regionals in singles and she and freshman, Lyudmyla Livoska (Toronto, Canada), would win the doubles portion.
- Kovalska and Livoska would advance to the ITA Small College Championships where they would show well.
- Team would compete in the USTA College Invitational and would show well against four-year schools.
Men's Soccer - Current Head Coach, Kenichi Yatsuhashi, was hired in the Spring of 2010.
- Team in the Region XV Division I Championship game.
- ASA graduate, Millon Prescott, was named an NJCAA Academic All-American in the Spring of 2010.
Athletic Facilities - In the fall of 2010 ASA completed a state-of-the-art weight and fitness facility in the ASA dormitory overseen by ASA Director of Athletics, Ken Wilcox, and supported by ASA President, Alex Shchegol.
