WOMEN'S BASKETBALL LOSES A HEARTBREAKER TO GLOBE December 21, 2010 ![]() VALHALLA, NY - A close, hard-fought battle between the Women's Basketball team and Globe went down to the final seconds, but the Lady Avengers came up short against the Lady Knights, falling 82-81 in their final contest of 2010. After leading 43-40 at halftime, ASA was able to hold off Globe until the final two minutes of the game. A coast to coast basket by Freshman guard Cristal Liriano (New York, NY) put the Lady Avengers up 80-79 tie with under 15 seconds left. Sophomore forward Leryncia Miller (Staten Island, NY) hit 1-of-2 free throws with 6.8 seconds left. Unfortunately, Globe would drive the ball, score and draw a shooting foul with 0.2 seconds remaining. The ensuing free throw was made and a last-minute half court shot was waived off. Miller led the team with 23 points on 7-23 shooting and 9-14 from the foul line. Freshman guard Jakoya Duggan (Roselle, NJ) finished with 18 points and 14 rebounds and Liriano added 12. ASA opens 2011 with a road contest against Lackawanna on Saturday, January 8 @ 2pm. |
