Women's Basketball: Lady Avengers Hold Off Harford November 29, 2010 ![]() Leryncia Miller goes up for two. BEL AIR, MD - ASA's toughest test to date helped make a bold statement for both the women's basketball team and one of its key returners Sophomore center Leryncia Miller (Staten Island, NY) exploded for a game-high 23 points and 14 rebounds and the Lady Avengers pulled out a gutsy 64-51 win against Harford Community College Friday in Bel Air, MD. ASA (4-0) went on an 18-0 run in the first seven minutes of the game - with Miller scoring all eight of her first half points in that span - and seemed ready to run away with the contest. However, Harford rallied and answered with a 19-7 run of its own to cut the ASA lead to six at the half, 25-19. Harford used a 10-2 run to open the second half to tie the game at 29. Harford scored next and took their first lead at 31-29. A steal and score by Freshman guard Cristal Liriano (New York, NY) tied the game at 31-31 but Harford nailed a 3-pointer to take their largest lead at 34-31. The Fighting Owls would extend their advantage no further.There would be eight leads changes and two ties before the Lady Avengers regained the lead for good with 8:31 left in the game. Miller's 23 points included a perfect 5-for-5 from the free throw line. Sophomore guard Symonne Davis (Brooklyn, NY) scored 10 points and Sophomore forward Darleen McLeod (Bronx, NY) had eight points and eight rebounds. ASA plays their next game at home against Community College of Rhode Island on Tuesday, November 23, 2010. Tip-off is scheduled for 7pm. |
