BROOKLYN, NY – Ready to build from the success of the 2009-2010 campaign, the ASA women’s basketball team has high expectations for 2010-2011.

On Opening Night, the Lady Avengers did not disappoint.

ASA (1-0) defeated the United States Military Academy Prep squad 75-53 in front of a large, enthusiastic crowd – which included New York Liberty center Kia Vaughn – downtown at St. Francis College.

Four Lady Avengers scored in double digits, paced by Freshman guard Jakoya Duggan’s (Roselle, NJ) 12 points on 5-for-8 shooting. Sophomore forward Darleen McLeod (Bronx, NY) had a double-double with 11 points and 10 rebounds. Freshman guard Cristal Liriano (New York, NY) also had 11 points, while Sophomore forward Leryncia Miller (Staten Island, NY) posted 10.

The 22-point victory was controlled by ASA throughout the game as the Lady Avengers shot 42 percent from the field and 50 percent from 3-point range in a strong season-opening statement.
