Men’s Basketball: Avengers Defeat Bunker Hill in Season Opener, 99-78

Boston, MA----The men’s basketball started the 2010-11 with a win this afternoon by defeating Bunker Hill CC in the semifinals of the Roxbury Tournament by the final score of 98-77. ASA improves to 1-0 with the win.

The Avengers jumped out to an early lead in the first half and never looked back. ASA finished the first half with a 54-34 lead that went up to as much as a thirty-point lead early in the second half.

Nine ASA players scored in this game. Four players for ASA scored twelve or more points.

Freshman guard Jamal Francis (Brooklyn, NY) [Pictured] led ASA with 21 points including two three-point field goals. He was a perfect 3-3 form the charity stripe. Sophomore forward, Keenan Belle (Brooklyn, NY), added 17 points scoring on the inside and the perimeter. Sophomore forward, Allan Thomas (Queens, NY), chipped in fourteen points to round out a balanced Avenger scoring attack.

The Avengers advance to the tournament finals where they will take on host, Roxbury, at 3pm.
