Football: Avengers Tame 'Kats 27-8 in NCF Conference Play

Brooklyn, NY----- ASA improved to 7-2 and 4-1 in the Northeast Football Conference this afternoon by defeating fellow conference member, Erie, 27-8.

The Avengers would take the first lead of the game by scoring a little over four minutes into the second quarter on a sixteen-yard touchdown pass from sophomore quarterback, Travis Eakin (Toney, AL), to sophomore wide receiver, David Valdes (Miami, FL). Erie would answer the call five minutes later on a fifteen-yard pass and run. Erie would go on to take the 8-7 halftime lead by faking the extra point kick and converting the two-point conversion. Erie would not score for the remainder of the game.

ASA would regain the lead with 7:44 remaining in the third the third quarter on a two run by sophomore runningback, Wandy Saintilien (Miami, FL)[Pictured]. The Avengers would add to the lead on a 66-yard touchdown catch and run as Eakin would connect with sophomore receiver, Malcolm Eugene (Huntington, NY), thirteen seconds into the fourth quarter. The Avengers ended any hope of Erie coming back on a 59-yard rushing touchdown by Saintilien. The score would be the first play of the drive after sophomore defensive back, Evan Flowers (Jamaica, NY), intercepted an Erie passing and returning it to the ASA 41-yardline.

Eakin would would finish the afternoon passing for 300 yards on 19-30 pass completions. Eugene would finish the game with 195 receiving yards on nine catches. Saintilien finished with 126 yards rushing and two touchdowns.

The ASA defense shut down the Erie attack especially in the second half. ASA was lead by sophomore linebacker Joseph Blanks’ (Pemroke, NC) eight tackles including 2.5 for a loss of four yards. Sophomore defensive end, Chris Watson (Brooklyn, NY), would add seven tackles of his own including 3.5 tackles for a loss of eight yards.

The ASA win sets up an NFC championship game with Nassau CC who is currently undefeated in the conference. The game will be at Mitchell Field, Nassau’s home turf. The showdown is set for November 13th and the kickoff will be at 2pm.
