#18 ASA Football Falls to Lackawanna October 16, 2010 ![]() Pecksville, PA--- The ASA football team's five game winning streak was snapped today by Lackawanna 21-17. The loss was also the team's first against a fellow Northeast Football Conference (NFC) opponent so far this season. The loss drops the Avengers to 5-2 on the season and 3-1 in conference play. Lackawanna improves to 5-2 on the season and 1-2 in the conference. As they have done every game this season, ASA would score first. The touchdown would come by way of a four-yard pass from sophomore quarter back, Chris Johnson (Philadelphia, PA/Roman Catholic), to sophomore receiver, Malcolm Eugene (Long Island, NY/John Glenn) 8:46 to go in the first quarter. Lackawanna would respond early in the second quarter on a three-yard run. The Falcons' extra-point kick would be blocked by ASA and returned for a score by sophomore cornerback, Charles Dowers (Belle Glade, FL/Glades Central), increasing the lead for the Avengers, 9-6. With 10:25 left in the first half, the Falcons would pull ahead on a 77-yard trick play pass for a touchdown. They would also complete a two-point conversion for the 14-9 lead. ASA would close the half scoring on a one-yard rush by freshman running back, Nahjee Gibson (Sicklerville, NJ/Timber Creek), taking the lead 15-14 after a failed two-point conversion. After a scoreless third quarter by teams, the ASA defense would force Lackawanna into a safety increasing their lead to 17-14. Lackawanna would deliver the final punch on an eleven-yard touchdown pass with 5:56 left in the game. The Avengers would not answer. Middle linebacker, Joseph Blanks (Pembroke, NC/Purnell Swett)[Pictured], had a standout game for the Avenger defense. Blanks finished with a game-high ten tackles (6 solo) including three tackles for a loss of eight total yards ASA will take the field again Sunday, October 24th, when they travel to Chester, PA to take on the Widener University JV. Kick-off will be at 4pm. |
