Football Takes Fourth Straight Against Alfred State 31-7

October 1, 2010

Chris Johnson

Hornell, NY----- The ASA defense was able to shut down the Alfred State offense in the second half to remain undefeated (3-0) in the Northeast Football Conference. The #20 nationally ranked Avengers improve to 4-1 on the season and Alfred drops to 3-2.

ASA struck first in this one, as they have in every game this season, on a 42-yard touchdown pass from sophomore quarterback, Chris Johnson[pictured] (Philadelphia, PA/Roman Catholic), to freshman wide out, Gerald Silvera (West Orange, NJ/West Orange), with 4:30 left to play in the first quarter. ASC would not go down without a fight in the first half, tying the game with 4:39 to go. However, ASA would answer the call with 3:00 to go in the first half scoring on 21-yard pass from Johnson to sophomore receiver, Malcolm Eugene (Long Island, NY/John Glen). This would be the winning score. Johnson would end the game with 283 passing yards and another 42 rushing.

The ASA defense would give ASC offense all sorts of trouble in the second half, not allowing them to score for the remainder of the contest. The Avengers would get rushing touchdowns from freshman running back, Moquan Dickens (Poughkeepsie, NY/Poughkeepsie), and sophomore running back, Fidel Cooper (Camden, NJ/Camden Catholic) in the third and fourth quarters to seal the game.

Sophomore defensive end, Keith Watson (Brooklyn, NY/Erasmus Hall) had a monster evening with seven tackles, a pass break-up, and an interception. Sophomore nose tackle, Gilbert Pena (Yonkers, NY/Saunders) led all Avengers with eight total tackles, including five tackles for a loss of 16 yards. Freshman kicker, Kevin Hartley (Lindenhurst, NY/Lindenhurst), was a perfect 4-4 on PAT kicks and made his only field goal attempt of the evening from 31-yards.

The Avengers return home this weekend at Old Boys’ High on Saturday. They will be taking on North Carolina Tech on Saturday, October 9th. Kick-off will be at 2pm.
