Purchase, NY--- The ASA baseball team was able to split this afternoon against rival, Monroe College. The double- header was a rematch of last year’s Region XV Division I championship series. The Avengers’ starting freshman pitcher, Jonathan Sanchez (Cotui, Domincan Republic/Liceo Francisco Carvajal) got off to a rough start, giving up 3 runs in the 1st inning. The Mustangs would score again in the 3rd, extending the lead to 4-0. From then on, Sanchez would find his rhythm, keeping Monroe scoreless for the rest of the contest. The Avenger bats would come alive in the 4th inning with a two-run home run by Alberto German (Santo Domingo, DR/Cenapec). This would be followed by a Monroe error, which allowed Carlos Ruiz (Brooklyn, NY/Transit Tech) to reach base and be driven home by another two-run home run by Deivid Gomez (Santo Domingo, DR/Escuela Nacional), tying the game 4-4. The Avengers would rally once in the 7th inning, to go ahead once again for the 7-4 win.

Unfortunately, the Avengers could not find their pitching in Game 2 of the double-header. The Mustangs were able to out-hit ASA and go on to the high scoring 17-14 win.
