Health Information Technology
Health Information Technology is one of the fastest growing areas in the health care field. This 68-credit program of study is designed for people who want to pursue one of its many careers. Students learn to administer health care information systems, manage medical records and code information for reimbursement and research. They gain proficiency on popular software applications and study how to analyze information, ensuring that it complies with an organization's standards and regulations. This program provides an exciting alternative for students who seek employment in the healthcare industry but do not want to work on the clinical side. Special Admission Requirement After completing their first semester of college-level coursework, students are evaluated by the department chairperson to assess their ability to continue in the program. Career Opportunities Graduates are prepared for a wide range of health information technology careers, including health information technicians, medical office supervisors, health information administrators, health unit coordinators, medical secretaries, and medical transcriptionists. This program also provides students with a solid foundation to make the transition to a Bachelor's degree program in Health Information Management.
