Executive Legal Assistant
This program prepares the graduate with high levels of organizational skills as well as knowledge and competence in legal concepts for corporations or law firms. While lawyers assume ultimate responsibility for legal work, Executive Legal Assistants continue to assume a growing range of tasks in the nation's legal offices and corporations. Nevertheless, they are explicitly prohibited from carrying out duties which are considered to be the practice of law, such as setting legal fees and giving legal advice.
The job outlook, according to the Occupational Outlook, for legal assistants is very promising. It states 'Legal assistants are projected to grow faster than the average for all occupations throughout 2010'. Employment growth stems from law firms and other employers with legal staffs increasingly hiring legal assistants.
The Associate in Occupational Studies degree program in the Executive Legal Assistant required the successful completion of 30 semester credit hours for graduation.
