This program is designed for people who plan to pursue careers as programmer analysts, web developers, and applications programmers.

Students take courses in computer architecture, operating systems, advanced programming techniques, database management, network administration & design, developing internet applications using ASP and Java, and general education.

They can choose from 3 elective areas:
  • Application Development with Java - students learn object oriented technology, SQL server database management with extensive JAVA programming.
  • Web Development with ASP (Active Server Pages) - students learn to analyze, design and implement interactive websites, using HTML, XTML, XML, ASP.net to create database driven websites.
  • Visual Communications and Graphics - students learn to use design software like Adobe Photoshop, Illustrator, Macromedia Flash, and Dreamweaver.

When they reach the final phase of their specialization, students submit a real world project for evaluation by a 3-member faculty panel.

If they successfully complete these electives in the recommended sequence, they're prepared for the corresponding industry certifications. Upon graduation, they'll also have an impressive portfolio of web pages to use in their job search.

ASA continuously updates curriculum in this program to remain current with the industry.

Career Opportunities
Graduates are prepared for these careers. This program also provides students with a solid foundation to make the transition to a Bachelor's degree program in Computer Programming and Information Technology.

The NYS Department of Labor projects that computer programming and information technology professionals will have "very favorable" job prospects through at least 2014.
