About ASA BaseballASA heads into the 2012 season after a 2011 which saw the Avengers and Head Coach Francisco Perez post a 29-13 (10-2 Region XV) record and capture its second consecutive Region XV Division I championship, defeating Monroe College for the title. The Avengers’ pitching during the Region XV postseason was lights out. The legend of Sophomore Pitcher Jonathan Sanchez (Cotui, DR) reached an all-time high during the playoffs. In Game I of the Final vs. Monroe, Sanchez – who had thrown 120 pitches – struck out three straight batters swinging with two players in scoring position to preserve a 3-2 victory. In Game 2, Sophomore Pitcher Isaac Gil (New York, NY) was spectacular in a series-clinching, three-hit, complete game shutout, dominating the Mustangs for a 4-0 win in front of a number of Major League scouts. Gil would go on to be selected by the Tampa Bay Rays in the 31st Round of the 2011 Major League Baseball Draft. Seven players would be named to the 2011 All-Region XV team, including Sanchez, who would be named Region XV Division I Player of the Year as well as a NJCAA Honorable Mention All-American. Coach Perez would be named the Region XV Division I Coach of the Year for the second year in a row. ASA BASEBALL HISTORY| SEASON | W | L | FINISH |
